Creative Trauma UK: Working Creatively with Trauma™ courses

Our Creative Trauma UK: Working Creatively with Trauma™ courses are the only Trauma Trainings in the UK  to explore evidence-based models of trauma therapy using sandplay and expressive arts. In addition, we draw on neuroscience, somatic bodywork and systemic thinking. We will also help you develop awareness of Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, EFT and EMDR.

In particular, our creative trauma courses use our extensive experience of treating trauma via creative arts therapies for 20 years. You will as a result understand trauma treatments through an expressive lens. Specifically, we will help you understand post-traumatic stress disorder and complex relational trauma via creativity.

Jill Carter presented the research behind the development of these unique Creative Trauma UK courses to a BACP Making Connections conference in Bournemouth, February 2020.

Why use Creative Trauma UK Therapy in your work?

Gain practical skills training to help you work confidently with children, young people and adults

Our creative trauma UK training courses are continually updated to reflect the challenges of the world environment: the COVID Pandemic, stresses on families and war in Europe.

The courses work with trauma-informed sandplay®, art, meditation, music and movement. So, you can help your clients to express the emotions, memories and post-traumatic experiences that our bodies hold onto until it is ‘safe’.

As a consequence, you can use sandplay, art, music, meditation and movement as evidence-based ways of working with trauma recovery in mental health environments, as well as therapeutic work with traumatised children, young people and adults.

In addition, using creative play is a good way of looking after yourself as a mental health practitioner. Equally, trauma-informed practice is a nourishing tool in supervision.

So, you will learn research-based ways of supporting your own personal and professional process.

  • The Introduction is a good place to start if you are new to trauma therapy or want to see if you like our way of working.
  • You can follow this by gaining the Certificate in Working Creatively with Trauma(TM)
  • Then, practitioners who want to go deeper can join the Diploma in Working Creatively with Trauma(TM)

Our teaching is online at the moment. We will soon be offering both online and face-to-face courses

Expert, friendly, supportive training

“Jill has put together a superb course, filled each weekend with excellent focus on a particular field of trauma focused theory with many practical expressive arts activities woven through each day. Guest speakers are also a regular feature, offering a very lovely mix of new things to try.

The small sizes of the groups means that there is time to develop rapport and give each other considered feedback, and for discussions to develop. Doing the course online worked very well in fact as Jill and her team have the skillset to enable people to feel very connected”

Maggi who completed the Certificate in Working Creatively with Trauma 2022
