If the Certificate is the how, the Diploma is the why. At the end of the Certificate, you will have all the sandplay training skills you need to be working with children, adolescents and adults. The Diploma provides a nurturing space to explore your own sense of calling, self and spirituality in a supportive group of like-minded people.
The transpersonal sandplay training includes the Buddhist-inspired work of Ken Wilber, Michael Washburn who brings together ancient wisdom and the object relations’ world in the ‘regression in the service of transcendence’ and Stanislav Grof, who brought the concept of consciousness before birth into mainstream psychotherapy.
We will explore ways of using symbolic play to represent and heal ‘parts’ of our personalities in a non-verbal, kind and enriching way. This includes awareness of Richard Schwartz’s ‘Internal Family Systems Theory’, as well as bringing together sandplay research and the latest trauma models using symbols. We will look at systemic ways of working with sandplay with families, parent-child dyads, couples and groups, relating sand and other forms of play therapy creativity to the mental health world..
We will also discuss accessible ways of introducing mindfulness and meditation to clients (and ourselves). There will be music, movement and gongs: combining creative ways of working can enhance our client work and sustain us as practitioners.
You can choose to do the Diploma the year after the Certificate, or take a break and come back to it. Many groups formed on the Certificate stay together for this second year of training. It is taught by Jill Carter over five weekends spread out over a year. The cost is £1680 if paid upfront or £1750 payable in instalments. From this amount, a non-refundable deposit of £250 is needed at the time of booking.
There is no written work during this course, but there is more guided reading during the Diploma than in the Certificate. There are also opportunities to present clients and take part in group supervision during the weekends. You are welcome to do the Diploma just for the nourishment (as many of us do): if you want to get the Diploma itself, like the Certificate, it is 50 hours of client work including some sandplay. We can suggest suitably qualified supervision. There is no time pressure to complete these hours, they don’t have to be finished whilst doing the training course.
