Trauma and Creativity: Introduction to Working Creatively with Trauma™

Support your clients with PTSD trauma, grief and loss around Covid, mental health stresses and war

Learn practical creative arts skills for face-to-face & online therapy

Trauma and creativity skills are an effective combination for counsellors and therapists. On this weekend, you will learn how to use creative trauma and expressive arts therapy to help clients process traumatic experiences in a gentle way. In addition, this weekend is designed as a way of supporting ourselves around trauma and PTSD through self-care and supervision. There is therefore some personal and group process during these trauma trainings.

This weekend introduction is the first level of our creative trauma therapy courses. In this course you will learn:
  • Ways to use sandplay, art, music and movement in trauma-informed practice. Sandplay and expressive arts are especially effective in helping people with relational or complex trauma.
  • How to identify the emotional and physical symptoms of PTSD (trauma training post traumatic stress disorder) and complex trauma treatments. In particular, you will learn ways to help relieve symptoms of PTSD after a traumatic event such as sexual assault.
  • To explore how trauma and creativity can easily be combined with other trauma models e.g. person-centred, trauma-focused CBT, Gestalt or Jungian ways of working.
  • Practical, clinical skills using expressive arts together with evidence-based psychological therapies.
  • An awareness of trauma-focused CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Processing).

Expert, friendly, supportive training

“I was impressed and inspired by Jill’s professionalism, her encyclopedic knowledge and her excellent handouts. Most of all, I liked the personal qualities that she brings. She also has such generosity of spirit and warmth of heart. The pace is gentle yet firm, but her holding of the space is exceptional. After experiencing psychotherapy skills training in other institutions, I would rate Jill’s approach as both masterful and highly competent. The symbol collection is also second to none. In summary, the opportunity to learn in an experiential way as well as through lectures was deeply effective. In my case, it was also life-changing.”
