This is a weekend course introducing the ways we can use art in the counselling room. It is suitable for everyone working with or interested in working with children, adolescents and adults. In a small group, we will discuss the kinds of equipment and spaces you need, how to encourage clients of all ages to draw, paint or use clay, and the fears and other barriers we may have about becoming more creative in our work.
Small children instinctively want to make their mark on the page as a way of creating meaning in their lives. Unfortunately, many of us believe that we can’t draw (or we are told that we can’t) so that natural desire to express ourselves is lost. The aim of this weekend is to re-discover a kind and compassionate way of connecting to creativity using art but also music, movement and meditation.
We will discuss the integrative theory and research behind using art, and we will introduce the work of Jungian, Transpersonal and Gestalt theorists. The cost of the course is £300 and it is taught in Ealing about twice a year – contact the teacher Jill Carter for the next available dates.
